Frequently Asked Questions

I am a Level 3 Personal Trainer and a Level 2 Gym Instructor.  I also hold a Leadership in Running Fitness qualification and plan to complete the Coach in Running Fitness course.

No, of course not! I train people of all fitness levels with a wide range of goals.  I will work within your limits and tailor a programme for you and you only. You will be surprised at what you are capable of!

Most definitely not! The whole idea of a Personal Trainer is to reach your own individual and specific fitness goals regardless of age, fitness and size.

One of the main principles of fitness is that of overload i.e. the body has to be subjected to stress of a slightly higher level than it is used to in order for it to adapt to this new level and consequently improve fitness. However, because all of my programmes are individually designed and based on initial fitness tests, they will start off at a level you are comfortable with and from which you can safely progress.

For running coaching we would train outside; whatever the weather!  For PT sessions I do not work out of a gym or a studio so I can come to you with all the equipment we need.  I will design an effective training programme that can be done at your home, workplace or a local park and away from the local gym. One of the many benefits of mobile personal training is that it creates a private, safe and comfortable environment for your exercise sessions, and can be tailored to suit you and your life.

Anything that is comfortable, safe and does not restrict freedom of movement.

My standard sessions last about an hour but depending on your individual needs, I am happy to offer a range of longer and shorter sessions that can be customised to fit your specific needs and schedule.

Ideally, you should have some form of fuel in your system and be adequately hydrated before you work out. Eating something easily digestible an hour or so before you train ensures that you’ll have enough energy through your programme. If, however, you exercise first thing in the morning, eating before your workout may not be an option. Experiment with the types of food and the timing of your pre-workout meal to discover what works best for you.

Eating after a workout is important. You need to replenish your glycogen stores and ‘feed’ the muscles that you’ve just trained. I would recommend that you eat a small snack consisting of protein and easily digested carbohydrates within about an hour of training and then your next meal an hour or two later.

I completely understand there will be times when you are unable to keep your scheduled training session and likewise I’m confident that you will appreciate the value of my time. Obviously, exceptions will be made in the case of a medical emergency but for all other circumstances 24 hours notice is required for cancellation. Failure to cancel within this time or failure to show up for a session will result in FULL payment.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, just let me know as soon as possible.  I’m sure we will be able to work something out!

If you’re concerned with any type of health issue or injury, it is always best to first consult your GP before undertaking any type of fitness programme.  During our first consultation we will discuss any physical limitations to your training and if I have any concerns then I will recommend you obtain your GP’s consent.  If you are given the go ahead to train then I can adapt any exercises if needed to ensure you remain safe and injury free.

No. I will write your programme based on how often you would like to train with me and give you a detailed plan of what you should be doing on the days you are training on your own.  It really is all up to you!

For training sessions with me, I will supply the equipment which might include:

  • TRX
  • Free weights
  • Fitness and Body Composition Testing Equipment
  • Heart Rate Monitor
  • Resistance Bands
  • Step
  • Stability ball
  • Skipping Ropes
  • Exercise Mats

No, definitely not.  You can train alone anywhere that is safe and there is sufficient space. It could be at your home, in your garden, at your place of work, in a public park or wherever you feel comfortable.
