Sharon Williams

A Local Girl

My name is Sharon Williams and I am a UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness, a Nutrition Advisor, Level 3 Personal Trainer,  and an IRONMAN Certified Coach.  I have a passion for health, wellbeing and running! I am also a wife, a mum of two boys, a daughter and a sister.

I was born and brought up in Shrewsbury and so consider myself a local girl. I moved away for 11 years after I was married but returned with my family in 2012. My background is primary school teaching which I loved; I felt very passionate about encouraging children to be the best they could be. This passion is now translated to my personal training; I still consider myself an educator and just as the one size fits all concept definitely does not apply to a class of 30 children, it is just as impractical and unrealistic with clients.

The move from teaching to personal training was not a conscious leap but more evolutionary. Fitness was becoming more than just an interest or a hobby; it was embedded in my life and the teacher within me wanted to move towards imparting health and fitness advice and motivating young people and adults towards their fitness goals.

My Journey

I have been running for 15 years, mainly as a recreational runner. It was only in the last 3 or 4 years that I discovered my competitive side and began entering local events. At this point in my bio, I suspect there be some of you that will be curious as to what my Personal Records are. It’s a runner thing. I do it myself but running is most definitely not just about time.

Running; or any form of exercise that a person loves, is more about how it makes you feel before, during and after and how it impacts on general health and wellbeing as well. There are times that not even I want to lace up and head out, but there is #nosuchthingasabadrun, even if you don’t hit your numbers.

For those of you who are still interested my PRs are 21.29 (5k), 45.36 (10k), 1:38:43 (HM), 3:30:29 (M). I am also a 2 x Ironman 70.3 Finisher with a PB of 5:56.

They are not desperately quick times but I’m proud of them. They each have a story behind them and those stories, along with many others make me who I am today; a runner with goals and limitations who has to work very hard – just like everyone else!

Change 52.7

I know and understand the challenges of staying fit, and of working towards a goal whilst also juggling the pressures of children and family, work and home. I have two boys aged 13 and 11 and family time is always priority but with work and training demands as well, I’ve learned that busy people need a more evolved approach to their fitness.

Fitness must be integrated into our life but can’t always dominate. Whilst we must acknowledge the importance of balancing sleep, nutrition and recovery, sometimes life does get in the way and disrupt all that we are working towards. Acceptance of this is easier with a good foundation of fitness or a well-established routine which is what my programmes will deliver.

My goal is to incorporate all that I have learned into my own, unique programming for clients.
